Opus Architecture submitted an entry to the NZIA Canterbury Branch Pavilion Design Competition
Our submission, as part of the Christchurch rebuild initiatives, is a volumetric exploration, a provocative expression of architecture in its purest form – lines, surface and volume.
The design expresses the notion that architecture is a three-dimensional experience, and challenges our perceptions of space, even within a confined two-dimensional footprint.
The simplistic rectilinear outer form sets a deliberate contrast and tension with the internal organic volume. The sense of discovery is enhanced by providing multiple perspectives.
The form and space are further sculpted by diffused light and shadow, adding a rich layer of texture, and at the same time creating a sense of drama and intrigue.
